Media Room Co-ordinator – Technical Operations – Cape Town

Reporting to the GM: Group TV Operations and Station Management your key performance areas will include:
Manage and control incoming and outgoing workflow
Record and/or digitise material from tape (including spot and batch digitising) or router (Local and international feeds).
Transferring of material into or out of server or from tape to tape, black and burst tapes
Responsible for quality control of transfers and feeds
Responsible for the correct marking of tapes/slates
Taking decisions with regard to certain visuals and to feed information through to the bulletin editor. e.g. “breaking stories” and live events
Liaise with video editors, production managers and archivist
Keeping a structured log of all the feeds/workflow – with the correct descriptions as per ID codes
Taking local and international feeds and digitising simultaneously if the need should arise
Liaise with service provider or feed manager e.g. with CNN and Reuters or any other.
Set up and coordinate incoming and out going feeds both locally and internationally.

Requirements:
Well organised (methodical) and disciplined
Able to work under pressure - multi task
Able to take direction
Able to work with crew and editorial staff
Able to work in a digital environment
Understanding of role players
Good Computer literacy and a good understanding of file structures
Able to troubleshoot
Good knowledge of sound and video signal
Able to work in a live and pre-record environment
Have understanding of broadcasting environment
Have understanding of shot descriptions
Have an Interest in Journalism
Understand language of television
Knowledge of non linear and linear equipment – being able to record the feeds as they come through

Note:
Work irregular hours including weekends, religious and public holidays
Own means of transportation

2nd Deputy Assignments Editor – Johannesburg (e.sat)

Reporting to the Group Head: eNews Division your key performance areas will include:
Drawing up and managing the weekend and daily news diary in conjunction with Assignments Editor and Deputy Assignments Editor
Assigning stories to reporters in around the country
Managing those assignments and reporters during the day
Chairing the 08h30am diary conference with reporters and camera operators
Ensuring breaking news is covered
Monitoring newswires, all newspapers and SAPA diary
Liaising with Cape Town News Editor, National Assignments Editor, National News Editor, Assignments Editor and Deputy Assignments Editor regarding the diary

Contributing to the forward planning diary in conjunction with Assignments Editor and Deputy
Planning ahead to ensure the best possible news coverage over weekends
Attending editorial meetings throughout the day
To work alternate weekends

Requirements:

Managerial experience an added advantage.
Minimum 5 years journalism experience
Thorough understanding of political landscape and news coverage
Thorough understanding of TV news
Exceptional general knowledge
Willingness to work irregular and long hours
