Actors take fight for royalties to Parliament

In the days and weeks after the death of iconic actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards it emerged that she had been struggling with her health and didn’t have money to pay for medical care. If she had received royalties for her legendary performances that wouldn’t have been the case.

Now after years of fighting for legislation to protect actors the South African Guild of Actors will finally make a presentation to Parliament in support of actor’s royalties.

Jack Devnarain the chairperson of the South African Guild of Actors outlined the road ahead.
