Batsa reacts to cigarette price hike

Johnny Molato from British American Tobacco SA says the implications of the recent increase in the price of cigarettes are quite serious.

This given that the industry is still recovering from the ban on cigarettes that was imposed during the hard lockdown.

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni on Wednesday announced an 8% increase in the price of tobacco products,

during his budget speech. Molato says the price hike will force consumers to head to the illicit market.
