Dealing with new COVID-19 variants

The health department's keeping a close eye on India’s COVID-19 crisis, amid concerns that a variant currently ripping through the South Asian country will spread to South Africa.  

Kwa-Zulu Natal's Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform Director Tulio de Oliveira joined us on Wednesday to discuss the situation in India and the variant first identified there.

De Oliveira says South Africans should not be alarmed as experts are well aware of this variant at this stage.
