The Delta effect

Gauteng’s healthcare system is buckling under the pressure of soaring coronavirus cases. 

In December, the Beta variant drove South Africa’s second COVID-19 wave. 

But this time around, the Delta variant, which was first identified in India has begun wreaking havoc.

It's 97% more transmissible than the original Wuhan strain first identified in China. 

Gauteng now accounts for of 65% of new daily cases and experts say only vaccinations can help us now.
