E Cape scooter scandal confusion
It's been dubbed the scooter scandal. There's a lot of confusion around the R10 million that has allegedly
been paid by the Eastern Cape Health Department for 100 motorbike ambulances.
The scooters were supposed to ferry patients from rural areas to the nearest clinic.
But this week, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said the motorbikes didn’t meet the basic standards to be ambulances.
For more on this we spoke to the DA's Siviwe Gwarube.
The company that was awarded the tender, FabKomp, however says it has not received any money from government yet,
and it hasn’t delivered any scooters. It says those on display were meant as a demonstration to government officials.
We spoke to Brian Harmse, the CEO of FabKomp.
