Fake COVID tests for travellers
Cross-border travellers can buy a fake COVID test, for as little as R300 at Johannesburg’s Park station.
Investigative journalist, Patrick Egwu, secured two fake tests from two bus companies, within minutes of arriving at the city’s central railway station.
Writing for the Daily Maverick, he reveals that he was not asked to provide any samples, and was able to get the tests within half an hour.
Since March this year, officials have detected, 469 fake COVID tests at our ports of entry.
It’s clear that the problem is far more widespread.
