Funeral costs skyrocket during the pandemic

Almost 70 000 people have died from COVID in South Africa since the pandemic hit our shores.

That coupled with the recent unrest that claimed over 300 lives thousands of families are now faced with having to burying their loved ones. But the cost of funerals increased by as much as 25% since last year.

Unathi Saul the co-founder of Abaveleli Funeral Directors says the cost of preparing the body of someone who died of COVID-19 for burial is much more than the usual burial. She says the cost of transportation also increased.
