Inheritance for unmarried partners
Are unmarried life partners entitled to inherit their partner’s assets after their death, if it's not stipulated in the will?
That’s the question before the Constitutional Court this week.
South African courts have already extended those benefits to same-sex couples, and those who have not entered into a formal Christian marriage.
One of the lawyers on this case, Amy-Leigh Payne, joined us on Wednesday.
She says the court case is important as life partnerships are far more prevalent these days.
