Latest on COVID-19 variants

Ministers Blade Nzimande and Zweli Mkhize briefed the media on the COVID 501Y.V2 variant on Wednesday morning. 

Nzimande and Mkhize have been working with local scientists from the KwaZulu-Natal Research Informatics and Sequencing Programme or KRISP, to find out  more about the COVID-19 variants in our country.

KRISP is the first in the world to show that the 501Y.V2 variant has a number of mutations on its spike protein.
