A new injection could prevent HIV infection

South African scientists are at the forefront of breakthroughs in HIV prevention treatment.

Less than a month ago they announced a potential game-changer which they believe,

could turn the tide on the fight against HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa.

An anti-retroviral injection given every two months to prevent HIV infection, rather than a daily pill.

The early results of the Wits University study were announced by Professor Helen Rees.

She’s the executive director of the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute.

She joined us to explain what the results mean.
