Presidency now controls SA intelligence
One of the biggest changes announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last night is the decision to move the state intelligence service under the control of the Presidency.
The president said this is to ensure that he is able to safeguard the security and integrity of the nation more effectively. The State Security Department will be overseen by Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele along with deputies Zizi Kodwa and Pinky Kekana.
But there have been some ethical concerns about the move. Former foreign intelligence head Mo Shaik says there no need for concern, everything it’s all above board.
