President’s security cluster quandary
Despite intense criticism over how government handled the recent civil unrest President Cyril Ramaphosa seems largely in control now.
That’s the view of political Oscar Van Heerden following a difficult two weeks.
The country was confronted with widespread violence and looting in Gauteng and KZN in the midst of soaring COVID-19 infections.
Added to that is the internal battles within government about who should take responsibility for failing to stem the violence.
Van Heerden says it’s now up to the president to ensure accountability.
