Prisoners released on early parole to curb COVID-19 spread
The Justice Minister Ronald Lamola announced that around 19 000 prisoners will be released,
in a bid to minimise the spread of COVID-19. The parole will apply to low-risk inmates,
who are close to serving their minimum detention periods and it applies to only those who were sentenced for non-violent crimes.
Lamola joined us via Skype earlier to talk us through his decision.
