Ramaphosa signs amended civil union law
President Cyril Ramaphosa has approved two new laws related to civil unions.
Under the new laws, marriage officers may no longer object to officiating a civil union, between a same sex couple.
The original act contained a clause, which allowed officials the right to refuse marrying a couple, based on their beliefs.
For more on this we spoke to Thiruna Naidoo, spokesperson for the Centre for Human Rights.
This amendment is a massive step forward for equality as marriage officers won't be able to refuse them.
But what about businesses?
Gay couple, Sasha-Lee Heekes and Megan Watling are suing the owners of Beloftesbos, a wedding venue in Stanford in the Western Cape, after they refused to host their wedding.
The owners are fighting back saying supporting same-sex marriage is against their religious beliefs.
Melanie Rice spoke to the couple.
