SA scientists make COVID-19 breakthrough
A team of scientists at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases
and the South African Bioinformatics Institute have successfully sequenced,
a local sample of the SARS-COV-2 genome, the virus which causes COVID-19.
This breakthrough will help scientists to understand how the virus,
moves from one person to another, and how the spread can be contained.
Peter van Heusden, a Researcher at the University of the Western Cape and Bioinformatics Institute
joined us via Skype to share more information on this breakthrough.
