SAA plans to be in the air soon
South African Airways wants to be up in the air again by July or August. The exact date will be determined by lockdown restrictions. In a statement the national carrier says that the resumption of flights also depends on resolving a dispute with pilots.
SAA was placed under business rescue in 2019 which it exited in April this year. The SAA fleet has also been grounded since March 2020 as a result of coronavirus travel bans. Its subsidiaries, SAA technical and Mango were recently handed a R2.7 billion lifeline as part of the R10.5 billion allocated to SAA in the mini-budget last year.
We spoke to Guy Leitch managing editor at SA Flyer Magazine who is not optimistic about this prospect.
