Time for Hlophe to bow out, says Kriegler

Judge John Hlophe should step down as Western Cape judge president. That’s the view of retired Constitutional Court Justice Johann Kriegler.

His comments come after the Judicial Conduct Tribunal found Hlophe guilty of gross misconduct.

It says he breached a provision of Section 165 of the Constitution, when he attempted to influence, 

two Justices of the Constitutional Court, to violate their oath of office. The tribunal recommended that he be impeached.  

Justice Kriegler, the chairperson of Freedom Under law spoke to us on Monday.
