Veld fires rage in Northern Cape

A massive veld fire is currently wreaking havoc on farms in the Northern Cape. The blaze which broke out over the weekend spans 15 kilometers.

It’s now spread to the Free State with areas between Jacobsdal and Kimberley also in flames.

The fire has ravaged large pockets of agricultural land and hundreds of livestock have been lost.

Farmer Marnus Nel says the impact on especially the farming community is devastating.

Agri Northern Cape has also called for urgent relief measures as the fire will have a devastating impact on the agriculture and tourism sectors.
