WC still leading daily COVID-19 infections

Many doctors in Gauteng and the Western Cape say they are close to breaking point.

The two provinces account for around half of all new COVID cases with the Western Cape now the country’s epicentre.

Trauma cases also increased as a result of taxi violence and the lifting of the booze ban adding to the pressure on the health system.

Dr Saadiq Kariem, the Western Cape Health Department’s head of operations says this weekend alone trauma cases doubled at the 20 health facilities it had monitored.
