Non-Muslims champion call for prayer
In a show of Ubuntu, a non-Muslim is championing the call for the return, of the Islamic call to prayer,
or Athan, in a Durban community. This follows last week’s, landmark judgment for KwaZulu-Natal,
where a judge ruled that the Athan, be silenced, in a predominantly Muslim community.
Naledi Moleo caught up with Rivaaj Ramdas, who used a solidarity motorcade this weekend,
to demand that the Athan, at an Isipingo madrasa, be re-instated.
David Mosoma, the chairperson of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural,
Religious and Linguistic Communities, also joined us to discuss religious tolerance.
