Residents protest athaan judgment
Residents of Durban’s Dakota Informal Settlement, are demanding the unbanning
of the Islamic call to prayer, or athaan, at an Isipingo madrassa.
Last week, Chandre Ellaurie, a self-proclaimed Islamophobe, won his court bid,
to have the public airing of the athaan, banned.
The residents say they'll continue protesting, until the call to prayer is re-instated.
Shaykh Ihsaan Taliep, the President, of the United Ulema Council of South Africa,
joined us to share significance of the athaan.
