Reclaiming the rights to Rooibos

In a ground-breaking new agreement, Khoi and San communities are staking their claim to the rights to Rooibos. The lucrative export rakes in about a billion Rand every year. Under this industry-wide pact, South Africa's first citizens are recognized as the original knowledge holders of the tea plant. They'll now also be entitled to a cut of the profits.
