Inmates to cleanup Msunduzi

If inmates are roped in to do municipal work free of charge can that be considered exploitation?

Well, the South African Municipal Workers’ Union believes it amounts to an apartheid-style agreement.

The union’s condemned a decision which will see criminals being deployed to do municipal work in the City of Msunduzi.

The City has partnered with the Department of Correctional Services for a cleaning project.

Samwu’s regional secretary, Linda Gcabashe says these much-needed jobs should go to unemployed people.
