Arson charges against CT fire suspect dropped
The man arrested during last week's devastating Table Mountain fire will no longer face arson charges.
35-year old Frederick Mhangazo has now been charged for contravening a by-law under the National Parks Act.
This means he faces a lesser sentence, if found guilty. He was arrested on the same night a massive wildfire spread across Table Mountain.
Mhangazo has apparently been living on the mountain for years.
His case has been moved from the Cape Town Magistrate’s court to the district court and his attorney Shaun Balram says,
his client has been granted bail of R500.
