Calls to change the law around suing sexual offenders
A Durban woman, who survived a brutal gang rape almost 40 years ago is seeking to change the law around civil claims against her attackers.
She wants them to pay damages of around R600 000 for the trauma she suffered.
There's no time limit on criminal prosecution for rape, but current legislation puts a three-year time cap on suing sexual offenders.
Advocate Bronwyn Pithey, from the Women’s Legal Centre is on the case.
