New variants could have huge impact in third wave

Professor Adrian Puren has warned that South Africans need to continue to be vigilant and ensure we have all systems in place.

He is the Acting Executive Director of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

We chatted to him after news broke that there are now three known variants of COVID-19 in South Africa.

He says we don’t need to be fearful but rather alert ahead of a potential third wave of infections.
