Analysis: SA by-election results

Wednesday saw 40 by-elections take place in 25 municipalities and the results are in. The ANC continues to thrive keeping 27 wards, losing one and gaining three more.

Smaller parties gave the opposition a run for their money with the Patriotic Alliance shaking the DA out of Ward 18 in Eldorado Park. Paul Berkowitz, a local government expert says it’s a continuation of a two year trend where the EFF is growing in some areas while the DA continues to suffer defeats.
