Chaos at schools
It was a day of high drama at some schools in the country.
In Witbank, parents threw punches at each other outside the Witbank Technical High School in Mpumalanga during a protest against racism. It comes after allegations that some pupils have been racially abused by teachers at the school. This led to black parents protesting and calling for the school to be closed. However, some white parents disputed the allegations.
Mpumalanga Education MEC Bonakele Majuba says the department is investigating.
Meanwhile, in Cape Town parents at the German International School protested outside its premises today. It follows alleged racist comments made by a teacher in a Life Orientation class. The teacher was suspended but has been since been allowed back at school. etv news and sport has reached out to the school for comment. We are yet to receive a reply.
Diversi-T managing director Terry Oakley-Smith meanwhile says that we haven’t really done anything when it comes to dealing with racism. She says unless real action is taken, these type of incidents will just keep repeating itself.
