Joao Rodrigues to stand trial
The Supreme Court of Appeal has upheld a high court ruling dismissing Joao Rodrigues' application for a permanent stay of prosecution.
This effectively mean's that the former apartheid police officer will have to stand trial for the murder of anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Timol.
Timol died at the notorious John Vorster Square Police Station in 1971.
Former Truth and Reconciliation Commission Commissioner and former Executive Director of the Foundation for Human Rights in South Africa, Yasmin Sooka says the issue of political interference should be investigated.
