Christmas in July!

This past weekend was a historic one for South African horseracing.

Ashwin Reynolds became the first non-white horse owner to have won Mzansi’s most famous horse race, the Durban July.

With jockey Gavin Lerena on his back, Reynolds' horse, Kommetdieding worked his way through the field to cross the 2.2 km finish line first.

What’s more is that the three year-old colt is also the first horse with an Afrikaans name to feature on the race’s 125 year roll of honor.

Due to COVID-19 Reynolds and his family could not attend the race in Durban.

But that did not stop the Reynolds clan from spurring their winner on when the starting gates opened.

Ashwin Reynolds spoke to us about the historic moment.
