Election ‘ball’ now in Constitutional Court

Cooperative Governance Minister Nkozasana Dlamini-Zuma says government will gazette the election date before the matter heads to the Consitutional Court. She says they’ve accepted the recommendations of the Moseneke report that the elections should be postponed.

The inquiry led by Judge Dikgang Moseneke found that the elections would not be free or fair if held during the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister says the IEC now needs to approach the Constitutional Court urgently to have the election postponed.

Dlamini-Zuma added that for the time being, the current election date still stands.
