School holidays scrapped?

The Basic Education Department is meeting with provincial department heads today to discuss the possibility of cancelling the October school holidays. That's according to the SA Onderwysers Unie.

The Department says several options are on the table and an announcement will be made soon. Unions plan to fight any decision to change the school calendar.

The SA Onderwysers Unie says it's received communication from the DBE that five days from the 4th to the 8th of October will be used to catch up on teaching time.
