SA’s DNA logjam

Gender-based violence and sexual assault cases are keeping the South African Police Service’s plate extremely full. 

There are currently more than 300 000 rape cases registered for investigation. And activists and experts say if a massive DNA backlog is not eradicated, rape survivors could be waiting up to two years for crucial evidence in their case.
