BAT and the Zim connection

Smokes, spies, bribes and Uncle Bob.

These all come together in a BBC investigation which lifts the lid on British American Tobacco’s attempt to gain market influence in Southern Africa.

The global company is accused of bribery and spying in a bid to sabotage its rivals.

Its alleged the late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe is one of the people offered a bribe. BAT has denied all the allegations.

London Correspondent Olly Barratt explains how bribes were allegedly paid to secure the release of three people charged with illegal surveillance in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, the Fair-Trade Independent Tobacco Association says, it’s not shocked by the allegations against British American Tobacco.

In fact, it’s called for an investigation as far back as 2016.
