Unisa’s revised language policy unconstitutional
The Constitutional Court has ruled that Unisa’s revised language policy is unconstitutional.
The university's policy seeks to phase out Afrikaans as a medium for teaching and learning.
The court dealt with the roots of the language and emphasised that it’s a misconception
that Afrikaans is the language of whites and that it is spoken mainly by black people.
Cultural expert Pitika Ntuli offered his view on this and the language usage at tertiary level.
