Dr. Zondo’s Crossroads

Dr. Mbali Mthethwa has been going through a lot in her love and professional life, but luckily for her, fellow intern doctor, Dr. Zondo has been a supportive shoulder for her to lean on.

Now, the tables have turned.

We don't know much about Mbali's friend, except that she has survived against all odds to study medicine and ultimately become a doctor. However, we have picked up from her motherly and caring nature towards her peers and patients that she is loving, even though she, herself, was not loved by her own mother. 

The complicated life spotlight is about to shine solely on Dr. Zondo.

Her mother has a heart attack, and unbeknownst to her, she is admitted to Durban General Hospital. Upon recognizing her mother, Dr. Zondo freezes as flashbacks of her mom's unsupportive behaviour come flooding back to her. Later, her sisters arrive at the hospital, which leads to an ordeal of a family confrontation. Dr. Zondo is not on the winning side. 

Adding fire to the family feud is how Dr. Zondo's mother wants nothing to do with her. She cost her money (or so her mother believes) by eloping instead of allowing her family to marry her off to a rich man and her mother benefiting from the lobola transaction.

Her sister loathes her and harbours resentment towards her, accusing Dr. Zondo of leaving her to be their mother's abuse replacement after Zondo ran away from home. On the contrary, her other sister supports her every move and is behind everything that Zondo does. 

On the work front, her job cannot allow a Dr with family challenges that affect her duties. 

It's going to be a mess for Dr. Zondo and the staff at Durban General Hospital on Durban Gen from this coming Friday at 6.30PM.
