Teachers union, SADTU, has welcomed the decision, to delay the reopening of schools.
The decision was communicated to the education sector, last night.
The Education Department is expected to brief the media on Friday.
Sadtu’s general secretary, Mugwena Maluleke, who joined
us via Skype, says they have been pushing for the delay for some time.

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union says the COVID-19 pandemic
has caused major problems and schools are simply not coping.
The union’s spokesperson, Nomusa Cembi, has called for an education stimulus package to be introduced.This is to help schools that are not surviving due to infrastructure challenges, personnel shortages and the lack of personal protective equipment.

The Limpopo Education Department says schools in the province are ready to start the academic year.
But the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union doesn't think so.
It says more than 800 teachers in the province are currently infected with COVID19,
and over 150 have already died of the virus. While plans are afoot to fill teaching posts soon, the union says there are more issues the department must address.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union wants schools to close until the COVID-19 peak is over.

The union’s National Executive Committee held a special meeting on Tuesday to discuss schooling amid the recent spike in COVID-19 infections.

The union says the rate of community transmissions, has increased since the reopening of schools, and this will inevitably affect schools.

We spoke to Sadtu's secretariat officer, Xolani Fakude.

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union in the Eastern Cape, is calling for all schools in the province to be closed.

This, after at least 204 pupils and staff, at the Makaula Senior Secondary School hostel, tested positive for COVID-19.

Diplomatic talks are underway with the eSwatini government to end the current crisis in that country. Violent protests have rocked the neighbouring state, and at least 19 people have reportedly died at the hands of security forces.
Protesters are calling for an end to monarchy rule and believe the country needs democratic reforms. Our Department of International Relations has called on authorities to exercise restraint.

resulting in anxiety and depression.

It was reacting to news that Absa CEO, Daniel Mminele will be stepping down at the end of April, due to disagreements on the bank's strategy.
Absa’s share price has since taken a knock since the announcement. The bank's current finance boss, Jason Quinn will take over as interim CEO.
Mminela is a former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank. The Black Management Forum says it’s written to the Absa board to arrange for a meeting before the end of the week to get some answers.

The Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union signed a COVID-19 lockdown agreement, which means that 80 000 workers will receive full pay for the six-week lockdown period. Melanie Rice spoke to the general-secretary of Sactwu, Andre Kriel.
