Sanef outraged by attacks on journalists in Nkandla

The South African National Editors’ Forum is outraged by the attacks on journalists
who were outside former president Jacob Zuma’s home in Nkandla this past weekend.
It says its deeply worried about the brazen physical and verbal abuse of journalists by supporters of Zuma. Supporters arrived in the area in their numbers over the weekend as the deadline for Zuma to hand himself over to police drew closer.
Adriaan Basson the deputy chairperson of the South African National Editors' Forum says journalists are the eyes and ears of the public
and don’t expect to be attacked while doing their work.

SANDF updates its dress code on hijab

The South African National Defence Force has finally agreed to amend its uniform policy to allow Muslim women, to wear their hijab as part of their uniform.
It’s a major victory for Major Fatima Isaacs, who has waged a three-year battle to be allowed to wear her headscarf under her military beret.
During this long and lonely battle she reached out to Nazeema Mohamed, a labour consultant who agreed to help her fight the charges.
Mohamed spoke to us on Friday and says she believes this is a victory against discrimination.
