Internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean author and filmmaker, Tsitsi Dangarembga, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Booker Prize for fiction.

She was nominated for her novel, This Mournable Body, which is the third book in a trilogy.

But while her work is being hailed around the world, she is expected in court,
and faces possible jail time, after she was arrested for peacefully protesting against corruption in the country.

Melanie Rice spoke to Tsitsi Dangarembga.

Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono was back in court today for allegedly breaking his bail conditions. His trial has been set for the 7th of December.

The South African government has been urged to step in and assist
Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, who remains in prison,
after a Harare magistrate refused to grant him bail.
Chin’ono was re-arrested last week on new charges of obstructing justice.
Speaking to etv news and sport yesterday, Zimbabwean activist Jacob Ngarivhume,
pleaded for more support from the international community.

Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, has finally been released on bail,
after 20 days in a maximum security prison. Chin’ono was arrested three weeks ago,
along with two opposition politicians, for tweeting about police brutality in Zimbabwe.
Hopewell Chin’ono who joined us via Skype is adamant he never tweeted such
and that the laws he is being charged with does not exist.

Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono is expected back in court when a possible trial date will be set.

The freelance journalist and fierce critic of Zimbabwe’s government, was arrested along with opposition politician, Jacob Ngarivhume.

They face charges of inciting public violence, and are accused of organizing protests
against corruption in the country.

Chin’ono was earlier granted bail, and had to surrender his passport and title deed.

Zimbabwean journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono, is challenging the constitutionality of his latest arrest. He was arrested for the third time in six months on Friday,
and faces fresh charges of publishing or communicating false statements.
Harrison Nkomo, who leads Chin’ono’s legal team, joined us to discuss the way forward.
